Vernon’s specialty in working with first responders and their families has been a passion for him for over 10 years.  He enjoys working with this population, specifically related to the cumulative “on-the-job” traumatic events that first responders experience on a regular basis.  In addition, Vernon’s work with first responders includes helping his clients communicate their needs more effectively, while also learning coping skills to help create an overall sense of emotional well-being.

Bernadette Gurney is a Spanish bilingual Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, who received her Bachelors’s in Clinical Psychology from Mount. St. Mary’s University, and her Masters in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Family Therapy at Pepperdine University. Bernadette has worked with unaccompanied minors in shelters, families in the DCFS system, and children, adolescents and families who have experienced deep and painful trauma in their lives. Luzzei received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of California-Davis and Master’s of Social Work degree from the University of New England. Mariyam Soorma, AMFT,  is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist at Valencia Relationship Institute, working under the supervision of Stephanie Webje, LCSW.  Mariyam received her MA in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from Pepperdine University. Mariyam works with clients of all ages and has treated children, teens, and adults struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, and different types of relational issues.  Previously, Mariyam worked in a residential facility with adolescent clients. Mariyam operates from a humanistic approach and believes that the therapeutic process involves collaboration, which includes working with various outside resources to provide the best therapeutic care for her clients. Mariyam believes her role as a therapist is to guide clients in the direction that they want to go, rather than tell them what the “right” way should be. Mariyam believes in walking alongside her clients to help them achieve their goals and has had great success in establishing warm, supportive, and nurturing therapeutic relationships.

Lance Steinberg graduated from Dartmouth Medical School and was designated a Rock Sleyster Scholar by the American Medical Association as one of the top ten medical students in the United States in the field of psychiatry. He completed a full residency in pediatrics at UCLA and Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, then a fellowship in adolescent medicine with an emphasis on medical-psychiatric interface at Stanford University Hospital and Clinics. Dr. Steinberg then trained in psychiatry at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center where he has taught advanced child psychopharmacology, CBT, and self-hypnosis for over twenty years.

Dr. Steinberg has spoken nationally for CHADD (Children and Adults with ADHD), the Tourette’s Society of America, and the OCD Foundation. He also has lectured at the HELP Group on autistic spectrum issues, and for many educational organizations on unipolar & bipolar disorder and learning disabilities, as well as anxiety disorders (generalized, separation, phobias, post traumatic stress, etc.). Dr. Steinberg is an Assistant Clinical Professor at UCLA (Geffen) School of Medicine and has a private practice in psychiatry/psychopharmacology in Calabasas, Encino, and Valencia. He enjoys doing consultations and treatment of people of all ages, and encourages close working relationships of the treatment team.
